Ranchi University (RU) is a public teaching-cum-affiliating university located in Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand, India. Established in 1960, the university now spans five districts of Jharkhand, namely, Ranchi, Gumla , Khunti, Simdega and Lohardaga The current acting Vice-Chancellor of Ranchi University is R. K. Pandey. RU was established on 12 July 1960 and its first vice chancellor was Vishnudeo Narayan Singh. The university has a central library with approximately 150,000 books.
