Jamia Millia Islamia (translation: National Islamic University) is a public central university in Delhi. It was established during British rule in 1920. It became a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988. The university was established by Muslim leaders and freedom fighters in 1920, before Indian independence. Among the founding leaders, the main were the Ali brothers, Mohammad Ali Jouhar and Shaukat Ali.
